Coach Greg Chelak

HEAD JUMPS COACH

2014 RHS Coaches [State Champions]

Twenty one year coaching veteran, Orange County, New York native Greg Chelak enters his ninth season as Riverton Silverwolves, Boys and Girls Varsity Head Jumps coach. Coming off a record setting 2019 season which included RHS qualifying seven jumpers for the State championship meet at BYU. Coach Chelak’s high flying squad is returning all but one girl jumper for the 2020 season while the boys will be returning 75% of the competitors from the record breaking jump efforts. Coach Chelak shares his competitive attitude with every athlete that wants to be a champion. As a record setting track and field athlete the coach accomplished eleven different first place victories in various events and was the OCIAA, NY [orange county] first triple event winner [LJ, High Jump and 100 yard dash] when they lifted the two event ban. 1971 saw Chelak posting an impressive long jump of 21’ 9” at West Point, NY State competition good enough for second. One of his most fond accomplishments in interscholastic sports was backed up by a 6’1” high jump effort [he Jumped “sitting up”] where the high jump was the only remaining event in the meet and the three remaining athletes were performing a HJ clinic in front of the huge cheering crowd. [18 high schools were in competition] More recently the coach can be found in the Max Preps.com basketball championship accomplishments as the Coach and program director of St. Matthias Lutheran prep boys Freelance basketball , South Carolina State Champions in 2009. In 2014 the Silverwolves dominated the boys 5A track and Field State championship which the coach was a proud cog in the coaching staff of that championship squad. Chelak coached athletes own most every record in the jumps categories on the Silverwolves “Wall of Fame”. The Legacy lives on with the Chelak name adoring seven championship trophies and one State championship ring in the RHS case just out-side the coach’s office.  Athletes and guardians alike are fortunate to have such a dedicated and veteran coach that their quests for track and field championship can be more easily obtained with Chelak’s  years of winning ways. The coach is affectionately known as CHELAK by all at RHS.

Greg Chelak – RHS coach was also elected to the Accord, New York top 50 all time Legends and Heros micro track race driver competitors, for 2018 – 2019.
