PRE-REGION

An African proverb says, “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.”

If Pre-Region is an indicator of what our team is capable of, we’re ready to go far!Course conditions were definitely different than last week’s Utah County Invite—longer course,

more hills, windy and warm—and this is reflected in the times. But it was good to get a feel for the course we’ll be racing on at Region.

The girls’ team set the tone for the evening—after a good start, they formed several packs and worked together to move up in the race. Placing 11th overall, Samantha Jacobson ran a tough race. She worked with Katie and Kayzia through the second mile, then pulled away to become Riverton’s first runner in. Katie and Kayzia crossed shortly after, followed by Kara, Brooklyn, Zoe, and Britney. Five more Riverton girls finished within a minute of Britney—solid performances from Rachel, Brooke, Rylee, Shambrea, and Becca.

The boys’ team got off to a fast start, and like the girls, stuck together in packs. Duncan Forrest gave us a three-peat performance as he crossed the finish line first for Riverton for the third meet in a row. Johnny followed just two seconds behind Duncan, with Levi three seconds behind him. Tyson, Ammon, Braden, and Payton fought to the finish to round out our top seven. Another performance of note was Chandler Thornack. Running his very first cross-country race, he persevered to the end. Congrats on your accomplishment Chandler! Even more impressive than the performances by our runners was the good sportsmanship and team unity our athletes displayed. From wishing a rival team good luck on the start line, to bringing our last runner in with thunderous applause, the Riverton Silverwolves truly embodied the slogan, “A team above all, above all a team!” Go Silverwolves!
