Highland Invitational Highlights

We kicked off our season with the Highland Invitational at Sugar House Park. This is one of my favorite races of the year. 1) Because we rerun this same race at the end of the season. This gives a good benchmark for fitness growth 2) The first two miles are the exact same as the state course which gives us good experience for state. 3) It allows younger athletes to get experience on the state course before they actually run it when they are older.

We had some really good performances. I am just going to highlight some of the bigger ones.

  • Probably the biggest things that happened was the sophomore boys winning the team race by about 120 points. Winning by that large of a margin doesn't happen very often in cross country. The Sophomores were led by Tanner Rogers who took 2nd overall, Cole Whitlock who took 7th and Spencer Willis who took 9th. Tanner ran a spectacular time of 16:14.

  • In the girls sophomore race Mckayla Lawson ran a gritty race and cracked into the Top 15 finishing 13th place overall.

  • Sean and Chandler ran a very good tactically in the boys JV race. The fun thing about this race was how well Chandler and Sean worked together. They started their race back in about 15th place and as the race progressed started passing people one by one. Sean finished second overall and Chandler finished 3rd overall. The JV Boys also took 2nd overall as a team!!
