A TEAM ABOVE ALL AND ABOVE ALL A TEAM
Sorry for the late post. I wanted to get my thoughts straight, less emotion, before I wrote this last XC blog post. This season didn’t quite goes as hoped. We had some big goals and didn’t quite hit the spot we wanted. This can be very discouraging and disheartening. Use this seasons result not to discourage but to motivate. I remember when I was younger hearing that great people are not determined how they react when things go thier way but how they react/behave when things are hard and don’t go their way. Lets get our heads up and go again with more tenacity and vigor. It is time to reevaluate and refocus and get prepared and more determined to be great. Ask yourselves did I do everything it took to reach my full potential? What could I do better? Did I push when I didn’t want to push and run when I didn’t want to run? What did I do well? How can I make this upcoming season my best ever?
On a more positive note there were some great things that happened this year. As a whole the team improved a ton. Not only in times but in work ethic, team bonding, focus, experience and love for the sport. I feel that this group now is more focused and are poised to have their biggest season of improvement. We are going to have a great winter of training, which inturn is going to set us up nicely to have a breakout season. The will to PREPARE always trumps the will to WIN.
Finally, congrats to Sam and Katie for making it to state and executing their race’s very well. I was so impressed with them, they ran their hearts out and represented Riverton High School very well. I couldn’t be more proud. Sam and Katie now are the 2nd and 6th fastest runners in Riverton’s history. Both are very young and are already high caliber athletes. Sam was the 4th fastest freshman in the state encompassing all the divisions.
I feel so privileged to be your coach and am looking forward to the next couple of years to work with you all.
