Distance Boys @ Davis Super Meet

What a great first meet for our Distance team! There were so many great performances and personal bests set. The distance team has put in so many hard hours of work when most people are either home asleep or inside out of the cold. As a coach it makes me extremly proud and I feel blessed to be around a group of kids that know and are willing to do what it takes to get to the next level.

Probably the biggest highlight of the meet on the distance side was Tracen Warnick's 3200. Tracen had a huge PR and ran a very elite time of 9:36, just missing state qualifing by tenths of a second. His time was a goal we wanted him to be hitting around the end of the season. This race was so exciting because Tracen wasn't intimidated by athletes who had better personal bests than him. He knew he was fit and was willing to put himself in the mix. With 400m to go in the race Tracen put on a huge surge to the lead and opened a 10m gap on the field. The last 100 he tightend up a bit and held on for second place overall. Tracen moved up to 4th all-time in Riverton History in the 3200, surpassing Riverton greats like Sam Coleman and Alex Dutton.

Also in the 3200, Ty Davis ran a freshman school record and won his heat with a 10:24. Also breaking our freshman record in the 3200 was Joey Nokes with a 10:36 and Chandler Morgan with a time of 10:51. Chandler has become quite the athlete and racer and has already exceeded my expectations for the season.

Other Great PRs in the 3200

Zane Fisher - 10:36 - 20 second PR

Sean Raush - 10:56 - Breaking 11 for the first time.

Levi Wolfley - 10:16 - 10:41 was his fastest time last year in track.

In the 1600 there were alot of great performances and personal bests. The highlight of the 1600 was Robert O'hara who took off with 400m to go. Running a 32 second first 200 of his last 400, gapping the field by 15 meters, winning his heat, running a big personal best and breaking 5 minutes for the first time!!!!

Other Great 1600 performances

- Trevor Maxfield in his first 1600, ran a 5:05 and won his heat!

- Braden Robins set a PR with a 4:41 and ran a blazing last lap.

- Austin Diede ran another big PR this week with a time of 4:48

- Talon Rodregez almost broke 5 minutes and set a good PR.

Success comes by "Perfecting the Process" day in and day out, knowing that the reward doesn't come immediately, but is worth it in the long run.
