Distance Girls @ Davis Super Meet
Day one of the 2016 Davis Super Meet gave the distance girls a chance to practice “controlling the controllables” as the weather fluctuated between rain, snow, wind, and sun throughout the day. They did a great job of staying warm and positive throughout the day.
There were personal records all around in the Girl’s 1600 meter run. Kayzia Glick and Breeann Lang worked together to follow their race plan beautifully; Kayzia ran a season’s PR of 5:49.74, and Breeann ran an overall PR of 5:50.46to finish 16th and 17th respectively in a field of 54 runners. Kara Johansen finished close behind in 20th place, running a 5:53.42 in her debut mile. We saw great performances from Jenna Young and Megan Naylor who ran personal bests as well. Finally, we’d like to recognize our four freshman milers—Abigail Coleman, Brynlee Bartlome, Rachel Smith, and Kylee Nielsen, who all saw big improvements in their times.
In the Girl’s 800 meter run, we had solid performances from Brooklyn Dutton and Jessica Anderson who finished 15th and 17th. Sophomore Emily Bluth ran nearly twelve seconds faster than her previous time to finish 18th with a huge PR of 2:45.77. Way to go Emily!
Samantha Jacobson ran a strong, aggressive 3200 meter race, competing with the lead pack for a 3rd place finish in a time of 11:36.45. Katie Christopherson and Zoe Bartlome worked together most of the race, moving up at the end to claim 6th and 7th place respectively with PR times that move Katie to 4th place and Zoe to 5th place on the all-time Riverton board in this event—nice work ladies! We saw huge breakthroughs for Holly Haymore, Bailie Spears, and Kamryn Rossberg who all improved on their previous times by at least 20 seconds—wow!
Even on tired legs, the distance girls delivered in the 4x800 meter relay. Riverton A--Kara, Katie, Zoe, and Sam, finished 2nd only to the Davis A team. Our B, C, and D teams gave it their all as well, turning the field to a sea of purple.
We’re proud of these girls for all the time and mileage they put in during the off-season. Their hard work seems to be paying off already—they are unified and motivated, and we’re excited to see what they can do as the season progresses. Go Lady Silverwolves!
