Distance @ Copper Hills Invite

The Copper Hills Invitational gave some our up-and-coming athletes the opportunity to compete in a bigger meet environment against athletes from twenty two schools. For some of them, this was their first time competing in an all-day invitational; it provided valuable experience not only in racing against a larger, more competitive field, but also in warming up for multiple events, listening for race calls, and being put into heats in a bull pen.

In the Girl’s 1600 meter run, Nancy Wang led her heat from start to finish, crossing in a time of 6:08.55 to finish 19th overall, and 4th out of freshman girls. We also saw solid performances from Emily Bluth and Abigail Coleman in this race.

Freshman Joey Nokes ran a 5:04.66 in the Boy’s 1600 meter run, making him the 4th freshman boy to finish. Sean Rausch and Chandler Morgan ran PR times of 5:06.39 and 5:08.50 respectively, Chandler’s time making him the 5th freshman boy to finish. Alexander Groneman finished with a time of 5:37.28, followed closely by Noah Sorenson with a time of 5:43.34.

Hannah Nay and Kaylee Larson ran well in the Girl’s 800 meters, as did our Boy’s 800 meter competitors Carew Trickett, Adam Frampton, Sean Rausch, David Rollo, Caleb Nokes, and Chandler Morgan.

Jenna Young looked startled for a brief moment when she realized she was leading her heat of the Girl’s 3200 meter, but settled into her pace and stayed at the front of the pack for much of the race, finishing 3rd in the heat with a time of 14:18.37. Emily Bluth just edged out Jenna on the home stretch to finish 2nd in 14:17.35. Kaitlin Richards followed closely at 14:21.79, and Brynlee Bartlome ran her debut 3200 m in a time of 14:36.46, making her the 3rd freshman to finish the race!

Strong performances in the Boy’s 3200 came from Talon Rodriguez, Robert O’Hara, Trevor Maxfield, and Joseph Broadhead. Congrats to Talon for breaking the 11 minute barrier, running a 10:54.83!
