Sprinters @ Copper Hills Invite

We had the opportunity to take a large number of sprinters to the Copper Hills Invitational, and they had a strong showing! Despite the blustery, cool wind, and our transportation not showing up, the kids rallied and put together some strong performances—many of them personal bests! We are proud of these kids for stepping up and putting together some great races!

In the 100m and 110m hurdle events, the kids weren’t given much time to warm-up, due to the fact that the busses were late. However, they were still able to pull out some great races, with many of the hurdlers running very close to their best times. Halie Day, Megan Johnson, Spencer Royce, Jeff Beals, and Connor Sabin showed their ability to bounce back from a stressful situation and they all ran solid races. A big shout-out to Connor Sabin, who had a huge PR in the 110mH, running 18.70. Jeff Beals had the best time of all of the Riverton boy hurdlers running 18.68.

In the girls 100mH, Halie Day had the fastest time for Riverton, running 20.20.

In the 300mH event, Megan Johnson and Halie Day all ran close to their personal best times, and in the boys event, Spencer Royce continued to improve on his technique and Connor Sabin had a huge PR of over a second, running 43.42. The hurdles are a tricky event to compete in, and each of these competitors ran well on a bigger stage than they are accustomed to.

In the 100m sprint event, many of the girls were running in their first invitational and their first time with FAT times. Kendall Evans matched her PR and Shauntel Painter ran a personal best time of 15.70. Tessa Sabin ran the fastest time of all Riverton girls, clocking in at 15.41 seconds.

Just like the girls, many of the boys who ran the 100m sprint were competing in their first invitational meet, and they were on fire! Of the 7 boys who ran this race, 6 of them got a new PR!!! A huge congratulations to Gage DeHaan, McKay Kimball, Gavin Lalliss, Ryan Larkin, Yu Linus, Jet Whiting, and Michael York. For the Riverton boys, the best time was run by Michael York, clocking in at 12.19 seconds. Yu Linus had the next fastest time, running a 13.24.

We put together a number of relays on the boys and girls side with kids who have never run relays before. They pulled through and ran some great races, with no DQ’s--bonus!!!! All the boys and girls 4x100m, medley relays and 4x400m teams did a fantastic job of displaying poise, teamwork, and competitiveness. It was great to see what they accomplished with such little practice going into these relays. Thanks to all of the Riverton relay team members for doing things that were asked of them, even if they weren’t even sure what they were getting into! J For the girls, these team members were: Tessa Sabin, Kendall Evans, Halie Day, Kate Hyatt, Shauntell Painter, Brynlee Bartlome, Cassidy McDougal and Megan Johnson.

On the boys’ side, the relay members were: Yu Linus, McKay Kimball, Ryan Larkin, Gavin Lalliss, Jet Whiting, Gage DeHaan, Robbie Walker, Noah Sorenson, Brendon Giles, Kade Kartchner and Seth Polevoi. Nice job to each of you!

The 400m event was perhaps the best event, collectively, for our Riverton squad—just beating out the 100m performances. All but one of the runners set a season personal best! Big high-fives go to Cassidy McDougal, Andru Dais, Brendon Giles, Kade Kartchner, McKay Kimball and Robbie Walker for their efforts. The Super-Hero award goes to Brendon Giles for hurling his body across the finish-line in Superman fashion to secure the win in his heat. Now that’s the competitive spirit!

Lastly, the 200m event showcased some more Riverton runners earning personal bests. Both Cassidy McDougal and Kate Hyatt ran PR times for the girls, with Cassidy turning in the fastest time for the Riverton girls. On the boy’s side, Brendon Giles, Kade Kartchner, and Yu Linus also ran PR times. Yu Linus had the fastest time for Riverton boys. He had a great meet.

It was great to see these kids take advantage of the opportunity given them to compete at this invitational. There were so many great performances and we are proud of all of the Riverton sprinters for their efforts on the track on Saturday!
