Distance Girls @ UHSTCA Invitational

An unpredictable meet schedule and constantly blowing cold wind made for a very looooong day at the UHSTCA meet, held at Copper Hills High. Despite the unfavorable conditions, our Riverton athletes gave it their all and stayed focused until the very end, which was no small feat, considering the meet was a twelve-hour day by the time everything wrapped up!

Representing our distance girls, Katie Christopherson raced her way to a 5th place finish and season PR in the mile with her time of 5:27.87. Rachel Rigby raced aggressively to come out on top in her heat, improving on her time for the season (5:57.11). Sophomore Emily Bluth finished 3rd in the same heat with a PR time of 6:12.92. Bailie Spears and Jenna Young worked hard together in their heat, both running solid races.

In the girls 800m run, Melinda Garrard won her heat with a PR of 2:40.55, followed by Brooklyn Dutton in 2:42, Kayzia Glick in 2:47, and Jessica Anderson in 2:48. Samantha Jacobson scored points for Riverton, taking 7th place overall. Way to go girls!

Conditions were still less than ideal by the time the Girls 3200m run finally came around. Kamryn Rossberg ran competitively in the first heat, finishing 4th. In the second and final heat of the 3200, Zoe Bartlome ran with the leaders for much of the race to finish 4th overall, followed by Kara Johansen, Breeann Lang, and Holly Haymore, who all PR’d in spite of the wind to finish in 6th, 7th, and 9th place overall.

Last but not least, a shout out to the amazing Katie Christopherson who stepped up to run a leg of the Girls 4x400m relay for the second week in a row with short notice. Two restarts and lengthy timing issue delays left the girls standing out in the cold—literally—for way too long. But they stayed focused and rallied when it was finally time to go, running a really solid race under the circumstances. Katie even ran a faster split than last time!

Our team is really coming together and looking good. Next up is the Davis Invite this Saturday—we’re crossing our fingers for some good (or even decent!) weather to compete in. These girls are capable of great things—let’s go Silverwolves!
